Eqoris Advisors (Raising Capital Consulting)
Despite what image TechCrunch may present, raising capital is a lot harder than it looks.

While the chance of getting funded is around 2% on average, the actual numbers are lower. Sorry to burst your dream bubble, but as per a study by First Round Capital – of the 3,000 business plans they looked at, they only invested in 21 – that’s a hit rate of 0.7% for companies that pitched. Accel Partners, received 10,000 business plans and invested in only 10 – that’s a 0.1% hit rate.

A typical $100m venture capital firm receives at least 1,500 business plans per year. Of those, about 100 (6.7%) will be invited to meet with the partners. Perhaps 50 (3.3%) will result in serious due diligence, 10 (0.7%) of them will be offered a term sheet, of which 5 (0.3%) of them will ultimately obtain funding.David Blumberg, Blumberg Capital

Let’s just say 0.25% of 1 in 400 companies get venture capital funding, and 10x (2.5%) that get angel funding even though the number of deals seen are higher with angel investors.

Raising money or capital is a time-consuming process. Not just time, but in many cases, effort and emotion as well. It could take anywhere from 3 – 6 months full-time effort for a successful round of financing. Quite often, it can be a distraction for business owners and founders, especially if you’re a startup and you need to focus on building your company.
